Check the pitch, then start tracking

Everything the analyser measures is in metres off this quadrilateral. Drag each handle onto a corner of the rolled strip — the brown rectangle itself, which is 3.05 m across and runs a metre or so past the stumps at each end. Get this wrong and every delivery is wrong by the same amount, and the map will still look perfectly reasonable.

It used to ask for the ends of the painted popping crease, which at this distance is not visible — so the strip was traced instead, and the two are not the same rectangle. Reading one as the other stretched every line across the pitch by 20% and put a fifth to a third of all deliveries off the strip. Runs measured before this need re-measuring; the calibration itself is unchanged.

Frame from the video the creases are placed on 1 2 3 4

auto-detected from the pitch outline — check it before trusting the map

  1. 1 and 2 — the two ends of one popping crease
  2. 3 and 4 — the two ends of the other popping crease

So 1→2 is the 3.66 m across the pitch and 2→3 is the 17.68 m down it. On a side-on camera that means two short strokes at the left and right of the picture, not a box around the whole strip. Which end the bowling comes from is worked out per delivery, so it does not matter which crease you start with.

These look like the long edges, not the creases.

1→2 spans px and 2→3 only px. A pitch is five times longer than it is wide, so measured this way every ball would come out short and wide of the stumps.

Scrub to any delivery you can actually see, put its timestamp above and name it here as a scorer would — 1.3 is the third ball of the second over, because overs are counted from the ones completed. Extras carry on past six, so 1.8 is real after two wides.

Scrub the video to the first ball of the match and put its timestamp above. Every other delivery is found from it, because the scorecard already knows how long after it each one was bowled.
The feed timestamps that ball at 13:59:54.

If the stream stopped at the interval

One timecode for the whole match assumes the video runs unbroken from first ball to last. If it was stopped and restarted, give the first ball of an innings its own timecode and everything in that innings is measured from it instead. Leave blank when the recording is continuous.

Nothing is measured yet. The next step offers 20 deliveries to check these creases against, and processing the whole match is one click past it.
